Artist of the day 2/14/12 : Dark Art day 2 : George Grie

So first happy valentines day every one! Today is my second installment of dark art week on my blog ArtfulHelix. I enjoyed learning about this innovative artist after stumbling upon a website with a page on his art. As the page had little information on Grie I decided to do some research my self. I knew after reading for a short time that he was perfect for today’s blog. Below you will find a mix of information I found on Grie, from both his Bio and Wikipedia. At the bottom of this post before the photos you can find links to both. The photos are a few of the ones I liked best.

If you have a Dark Artist you would like to see in the instalment this week let me know, I’d be happy to check them out.

George Grie Dark artist

Grie was born May 14, 1962, in the USSR during the soviet regime. He is a Russian-Canadian artist.

As one of the first digital artists Grie is known for numerous 3D, 2D, and matte painting images. He did not adopt the conventional and politically correct socialist realism art style. He graduated from the state university in 1985 with a BA (Honours) Degree in Fine Arts and Applied Design education

Grie’s artistic style has been heavily influenced by famous surrealists such as Rene Magritte and Salvador Dalí, fantastic realists Zdzisław Beksiński and Wojciech Siudmak, and surreal photo manipulation artist Jerry Uelsmann. His neo-surrealist artwork is a combination of classic surrealist symbolism with modern fantasy, gothic, and visionary art tendencies.

The artist’s digital neo-surrealistic artworks are an extraordinary visual record of his conceptual thoughts, philosophic views, fantasies, and dreams. Often journeying into the subconscious, Grie’s photo-realistic artwork shows a magical, playful, and dream-like world laced with detail. Supernatural illusions, mystic romanticism, spiritual magic and gothic overtones are all intertwined in his virtual world. The end result on the viewer’s side is not always comfortable or conventional: there is a great deal of tension and alienation, yet not without an underlying tranquility, in the strange events taking place in the landscape of his imagination.

This week I have chosen to do an instalment on dark art. There are many forms of dark art, digital, movies, books, painting, poetry, and on the list will go. There are as many ways to make dark art as there are art forms. As one of my favorite forms of art, as you get to see a different side of people, I do know it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But if you love it as much as I do, comment and give me a name of an artist you would like to see this week that specialize in the dark arts. Today’s post information came from http://www.cromoart.de/wordpress/2011/04/external-design-inspiration-digital-dark-art-by-lady-symphonia/ If you go to the page and go down to the bottom you can get some grat photo editing advice and other dark artist they have.
