A Few Tips for New Writers

Standard

Reblogged from Jwthompson55's Blog:

After you make the decision to become a writer there are a few things you need to know. First don’t quit your day job. Unless you are a famous personality, the chances of making a living when you start are slim. There are exceptions of course but they are few and far between. With the changes in the industry the big agents and publishers are no longer looking for raw talent to develop.

Absent

Standard

I know lately I have been absent. I never seem to find the time to do all the projects I have in the works. Sometimes something fall to the wayside, left to wait until I have the time to get back to it. I feel bad about not posting for so long.

I have been up to some new endeavors. I started writing for Yahoo!voices. So far I have published two articles, and one is waiting for approval. I don’t get paid a lot, but I’m not doing it to get rich. Why am I doing it, well it gets my name, my voice out there. Here are the links to the two articles I have done.

This is an article I did on David J Rodger, simply a combo of the blog posts I did on my blog: http://voices.yahoo.com/dark-writer-david-j-rodger-11430790.html?cat=44

This is a poem about summer : http://voices.yahoo.com/first-summer-day-11430124.html?cat=47

This is the link to my profile on yahoo!voices, here you can check out articles I have posted and become a fan : http://voices.yahoo.com/first-summer-day-11430124.html?cat=47

My tattoo business has even picked up lately. I am happy about that but it gives me less time with my kids, less time to write or paint.

I will try to post more. It may be sporadic, but when things calm down I would be happy to go back to the artist of the week or month. I hope you are all still with me :)

Coming soon a post on tattoos. I will talk about the history of tattooing and post some photos of my latest works of living art (tattoos).

Fracking Puts Families Out On Street!!!!

Standard

Hydraulic fracturing

For those of you who don’t know what Hydraulic Fracturing is let me explain the dangers this can cause to  our community’s, wildlife, agriculture. I know this isn’t my typical post, but it is a topic I feel strongly about!

This is the short version, Please if you want to know more there is a huge amount of information out there. All you have to do is look! I will add several links at the bottom to get you started.

This is exactly what Wikipedia said.

Hydraulic fracturing is the propagation of fractures in a rock layer caused by the presence of a pressurized fluid. Some hydraulic fractures form naturally, as in the case of veins or dikes, and are a means by which gas and petroleum from source rocks may migrate to reservoir rocks. Induced hydraulic fracturing or hydrofracking, commonly known as fracking, is a technique used to release petroleum, natural gas (including shale gas, tight gas and coal seam gas), or other substances for extraction.[a][1] This type of fracturing creates fractures from a wellbore drilled into reservoir rock formations.

The first use of hydraulic fracturing was in 1947, though the fracking technique which made the shale gas extraction economical was first used in 1997 in the Barnett Shale in Texas.[1][2][3] The energy from the injection of a highly-pressurized fracking fluid creates new channels in the rock which can increase the extraction rates and ultimate recovery of fossil fuels.

Proponents of fracking point to the vast amounts of formerly inaccessible hydrocarbons the process can extract.[4] Detractors point to potential environmental impacts, including contamination of ground water, risks to air quality, the migration of gases and hydraulic fracturing chemicals to the surface, surface contamination from spills and flowback and the health effects of these.[5] For these reasons hydraulic fracturing has come under scrutiny internationally, with some countries suspending or even banning it.

What I have to say :

We as a whole need to take a good look at our surroundings, our communities, our friends, our state, our country.

Our friends and family, our country is struggling. A lot of us can’t  support our families on our own, so we take what we can get. So when a big company comes along waving a large check in their face just to rent or buy the rights to property they take it. They don’t realize that in the long run they are damaging us all. Families being put out on the street with no place to go, how can we alow this. Earth quakes, water on fire, devastation of the eco system, long-term affects we don’t even know come into play. This proses of fracking has been banned in other countries.  I think its time we do the same, before the damage continues.

LIKE this if you are agents fracking, against the destruction of our communities! If I get enough LIKES I will start an online petition to stop fracking entirely!

Damage caused by fracking :

Would you want to drink this water?

Laptop Rehab

Standard

Hey everyone.

So a little over two weeks ago my laptop stopped working. My husband and I share this computer, but no matter witch name we went under  it just didn’t want to work. It would come up with this blue screen saying a bunch of stuff I didn’t understand, and system dump counting to one hundred. It would then shut its self of, tern back on, and start all over again.

For the two some odd weeks my husband looked for a way to fix it without loosing my files. He was eventually able to take our files off the laptop and fix it. I was so happy I married a computer savvy man.

I swear I went through computer withdrawal. I missed the Internet, I missed reading,  I missed writing, I even missed my fb games lol.

I had to find something to do in the time without you all. So what was I up to you ask. Well for the most part getting more work around the house done then I usually do, playing with my boys out side in the fresh air and sun shine, and working on the other book idea I had on the back burner.

I actually got a lot done on my other book, but Helix has to come first considering I already have an interested party. But its nice to know I have something done on that other book when it comes time to write it.

But what I wanted to  say the most is god its good to have my laptop back! I missed my blog, and working on my book more then anything else! More posts to come soon :)

Hard Few Days

Standard

I hate to say this but the new artist of the week may need to wait till next week. I barely even have time to write this post as both my youngest boys have a stomach bug. Have you ever had your foot thrown up on, it is a nasty feeling! I hardly ever post any complaints or trouble I am having, but with the two of them sick all I can do is care for them. All they want is to be held and cry, they can barley keep down a thing, so starting yesterday for a few days all I can be is mommy and care for them. Thank you Nana for bringing home a bug from work, lol. Sorry all, being mommy will always come first in my life.

Cutting Down

Standard

I have said before that I try to do to much. For the first time I have to do something, make a choice. After talking to my older brother I know what I now have to do, even though I don’t want to.  I have to  post less on my blog. I spend so much time  researching my blog posts I have no time to write, to read, to do things I need to do for my son’s after school activities, and all the little things that go with being a mom of three young boys. I guess that is why most writers either don’t have kids or wait until they get older. So, what do I plan to do? I plan to free up my time by blogging less. I love blogging every day, or almost every day, but kids take up a lot of time and I do still need to work on  my novel. So I will go back to doing an artist of the week, and my segments will run for 1-2 months. I apologies to all my readers, I will post again on Friday so I can do a great post for you all. Thank you all for reading and liking my posts.

Artist of the day 3/4/12: Dark Writing 4: Alexandre Dumas (Part one)

Standard

Sorry everyone for not posting this yesterday. My laptop was being extremely slow, still is.

Alexandre Dumas (Part one)

Alexandre Dumas’s birth name is Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, born July 24, 1802, died December 5, 1870.

Early Life

Alexandre Dumas was born in Villers Cotterêts in the department of Aisne, in Picardy, France. His paternal grandparents were Marquis Alexandre Antoine Davy de la Pailleterie, a french nobleman and Général commissaire in the artillery in the colony of saint-Domingue (Now known as Haiti) and Marie-Cesette Dumas, an Afro-Caribbean Creole of mixed French and African ancestry. Their son, Thomas Alexandre Dumas, married Marie Louise Élisabeth Labouret, the daughter of an innkeeper. Thomas, then a general in Napoleon’s army, fell out of favor and the family was impoverished when Dumas was born.

Dumas father died in 1806 when he as only four. His mother widowed was unable to provide her son with much of an education, but he read everything he could obtain. His mother’s stories of his father’s bravery during the years of Napoleon I of France inspired his vivid imagination for adventure. Although they where poor the family still had their father’s distinguished reputation and aristocratic position. In 1822, after the restoration of the monarchy, 20 year old Alexandre Dumas moved to Paris, where he worked at the Palais Royal in the office of Louis Philippe, Duke of Orléans.

Career

While in Paris Dumas began writing for magazines and plays for the theater. His first play titled Henry III and His Courts was produced in 1829, and was met with acclaim. The next year his second play Christine was equally popular, making it financially possible for him to write full time.

In 1830 he took part in the revolution which ousted Charles X and placed Dumas’ former employer the Duck of Orléans on the throne, he was known as Louis Philippe, the Citizen King.

Life in France remained unsettled until the mid 1830s, with sporadic riots by disgruntled Republicans and impoverished urban workers seeking change. As life slowly returned to normal the nation began to industrialize, and with an improving economy, combined with the end of press censorship, the times were very rewarding for the skills of Alexandre Dumas.

After writing more successful plays Dumas terned his efforts to novels. Even though he was attracted to an extravagant lifestyle, and always spending more then he earned, he proved to be an astute marketer. Since newspapers anted many serial novels, in 1838 Dumas rewrote one of his plays to create his first serial novel, titled Le Capitaine Paul, hich led to his forming a production studio that turned out hundreds of stories, all subject to his personal input and direction.

From 1839 to 1841 with the assistance of several friends Dumas compiled Celebrated Crimes, an eight volume collection of essays on famous criminals and crimes from European history, including Beatrice Cenci, Martin Guerre, Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia as ell as more recent incidents, including the cases of executed alleged murderers Karl Ludwig Sand and Antoine François Desrues.

Dumas also collaborated with his fencing master Augustin Grisierin his 1840 novel, The Fencing Master. The story is written to be Grisier’s narrated account of how he come to witness the events of the Decembrist revolt in Russia. The novel was eventually banned in Russia by Czar Nicholas I, causing Dumas to also be banned from visiting Russia until after the Czar’s death. Grisier is also mentioned with great respect in The count of Monte Cristo, The Corsican Brothers, and in Dumas’ memoirs.

Reblogged from kyle mew:

Gillian Colbert of Black Door Press has declared February 28th "Bare your sexual soul day". So I thought I'd have a go. Before I start I want to recommend this post by lovesexandmarriage.com, which is part of that. Its red hot stuff.

I thought about writing about one of those sexual fantasies that I'm kinda ashamed of, like having the woman I love make me watch her get fucked by another, better endowed, man and then have her watch me get fucked by him, but then I thought "No.

Nomination for Kreativ Blogger award

Standard

http://quizoxy.wordpress.com/ was so kind as to nominat me for the Kreativ Blogger award, after reciving it as well. Thank you again!

I have only been nominated but there is no reason why I can’t take the steps now and nominate others.

In order to claim the Kreativ Blogger Award here’s what I and the next lucky recipients need to do:

1. Thank the blogger who gave you the award and provide a link.
2. List 7 interesting things about yourself that your readers might find interesting
3. Nominate 7 other bloggers, provide links, and let them know!

 Seven Interesting Things:

1. I am 25 and I still have nightmares, almost every night. But I don’t always see them the way most would, I drawl inspiration from some of them. I may not have used the ideas, but they are there ready and waiting.

2. I once wrote a poem for my creative writing class in 9th grade that scared my teacher. I wish I still had it to share, probably one of my best. At that time it had only been a few years (I can’t remember how long exactly) seance the columbine shootings. I can’t remember the exact parameters of the assignment, but I did my poem on that subject, from the shooters point of view. I have always been able to place my self in the mind of another, someone I have never meant. So as some one who had suffered the torment of my pears for years, it wasn’t all that hard. Lets just say that when I read my poem to the class not only did I get a grate response from them, but my teacher pulled me aside at the end of class to ask if I was planing to shoot up the school. :) That made me laugh.

3. I don’t think I am interesting at all :)

4. My mind never stops moving. Even during intimate times (You know what I mean) I have half a dozen things swimming around up there. Its a pain in the a$$.

5. I surprised one of my teachers in middle school one day by reading a paper on her desk upside down. I can read upside down and backwards, because I am dyslexic, but adults in my school wouldn’t test me because they didn’t believe my parents.

 6. I have been through such bad experiences in my life it was thought I would end up with severe mental illness. Things that would and have damaged people to the point of drug abuse, mental illness, and even suicide. But here I am, you can say I am a little crazy but its who I am. I overcame the things that happened to me, and came out stronger on the other side. I know I am not the only one to ever do so, but its a personal triumph for me to prove the masses wrong.

 7. The people I love and care about think I am more talented then I do. But I know I should think the same as them. I won more awards for art and writing when I was in school then I can remember. I paint, tattoo, sketch, write poetry, and I am working on a novel, But I know no matter how much I do I can learn more, do more, be more. So I can’t bring my self to believe.

Now for my nominations, the blogs I enjoy on a daily bases! Check them out, you may love them as much as I do!
